Some of the top seeded boys are already out!
Break The Tape Bracket
Garrett Starkey might have pulled off the biggest upset in round 1 by beating #1 overall seed Devon Allen 52.8% to 47.2%. Garrett will be facing another pole vault phenom, Cole Riddle, in round 2 who beat quite convincingly #4 Andy Trouard of Salpointe Cathlolic, 63% to 37%.
Jaheim Brown-Taylor of Chandler had a good final surge to outlast Kelee Ringo in a #6 vs #3 upset (53.39% to 46.61%). And the big guy, Tyson Jones, held off a late move by Nathan Rodriguez to secure his second round spot (56.97% to 43.03%).
Pace Race Chase Bracket
#1 Seed Carlos Villarreal had a nice final kick versus hurdling highness, James Smith Jr. to move to the next round (58.12% to 41.88%). What was thought to be a closer match-up (#4 vs #5) was far from that with Trey Johnson from the get-go leading through the finishing tape over #5 seeded high jumper extraordinaire, Justice Summerset (63.02% to 36.98%).
Rylan Stubbs had little trouble holding off CJ Scrivner in his #3 vs #6 contest winning comfortably in the voting 74.9% to 25.1%. And the Pride's Paul Lucas also had little issue fending off Connor Stevens in a 68.15% to 31.85% victory.
Hit Your Mark Bracket
Trae Armstrong (#1) had the biggest margin of victory in round 1 with a nearly 90% total vote tally versus Hayden Mccain. But don't sleep on Isaiah Oliver who won his round 1 decision with over 82% of the votes to Bryant O'georgia. DV's Elijah Mason also handled his #7 opponent, Jeffery Miller, with not a lot of push back (72.2% to 27.8%) and distance runner legend, Billy Orman, did a good job holding off javelin dynamite, Carlan Naisant, (60.44% to 39.56%)
Gut Check Time Bracket
Yes, Leo Daschbach was the lower seed versus Tyrees Moulton, but with all that Leo has done recently, it may have been a forgone conclusion that he was going to take this; but it was a close one (54.22% to 45.78%). Incredibly, Cameron Crandall (#7) soared over #1 Seed, Bernie Montoya, with a huge upset to move on to round 2 (53.23% to 46.77%).
The power of Turner Washington was simply too much for Cameron Taylor to handle and he moved on without much effort to round 2 (62.84% to 37.16%). And the hurdler beat the jumper in the #3 v #6 dual of Robert Grant against Travonn White (70.52% to 29.48%).
Round 2 for the boys' side of the bracket will start Tuesday, June 9th. We will have bios on all of these athletes in the coming day.
Girls' round 2 will be open later today.
