Joy Moorer of North Canyon is the 2022 Gatorade Arizona Girls Track & Field Player of the Year. Moorer is the third athlete from North Canyon to win the award.

As well as being named the state winner, Moorer is also now a finalist for the Gatorade National Girls Track & Field Player of the Year. That award will be announced in July.

"First Giving glory to God," Moorer said. "With all that I've gone through, his intentions and plans for me have always been pure. This award amongst others that I've received is just a glimpse of the athlete I'll become."

"I have to thank my Mom [Charity Craig], Dad [Clavaughn Moorer], Coach AJ [Airabin Justin] and all my other coaches, who've not only trained me but poured into me every single day. I wouldn't be receiving this award without them. I'm more than blessed to be the third young lady to represent North Canyon's track team and win this award, for not only me but for them as well!"

Moorer put together one of the finest seasons a hurdler has had at the high school level in Arizona for her senior year. She went undefeated in the 300 meter hurdles, finishing a perfect 8-8 in scored races. Moorer's time of 41.47 in the 300mH finished the season as the fourth-fastest time in the United States this season. She won key meets like the Nike Chandler Rotary Invitational, the Arcadia Invitational and the AIA State Track & Field Championships.

At the AIA State Track & Field Championships, Moorer was a vital contributor to the Rattlers winning the team title. Moorer won the 300mH and the long jump, and placed second in both the 200 meters and 100 meter hurdles. It was the second consecutive year that Moorer won individual titles in the 300mH and long jump.

The success continued into the postseason for Moorer as she also claimed a first-place finish in the 300mH at the Great Southwest Classic in New Mexico at the beginning of June.

"Those young ladies at North Canyon set the standard for Arizona high school track and field, and Joy Moorer is no exception," said Brandon Payne, head coach of Horizon High. "She is a fierce competitor, an elite sprinter and has been a joy to watch compete."

Moorer will be suiting up for Texas A&M next year on an athletic scholarship.
