Girls 200 Preview:
Jasmine Todd (Chandler, 2012) comes into the 2011 season as the number five returning in this event with a personal best of 25.02, look for her to run a few more 200’s this year.
Jaide Stepter (CDO, 2012) is known for what she does in the hurdles but she is also the number four returner in the 200 with a personal best of 25.01. She place ninth with a 25.29 at the USATF Junior Olympics last summer.
Promise Amukamara (Apollo, 2011) is the first of three returners with personal bests under 25.0. Last year she placed second in the 4A I State Meet with a time of 24.99 which is just of her personal best of 24.81
Jasmin Pratt (Pictured left) Estrella Foothills, 2012) the number two returner ran her personal best at the USATF Regional Meet over the summer. She placed third in the event with a time of 24.94 which qualified her for the USATF Championships in Sacramento.
Alexis Roberts (Pictured above) (Chandler, 2013) finds herself as the number one returner in both the 200 and 400 this year. She was part of a strong Arizona Team at the Great Southwest Classic last summer where she ran a personal best of 24.71.
In addition the top five returners you will want to keep an eye on Rachel Johns (Notre Dame, 2013), Bailey Farkas (Skyline, 2013), Kendra Knittel (Rincon, 2013), Makaela Pratt (Willow Canyon, 2012), and a host of incoming freshman.
Boys 200 Preview:
Valencia Gray (Westwood, 2011) lands in the number five spot with a personal best last year at the 5A East Valley Regional Meet of 21.98. He went on to make it all the way to the finals in the 5A I Meet. Look for him to be back in that final this year.
Isaiah Underwood (Ironwood 2011), the 5A II runner-up returns in the number four spot. Last year he had a season best of 21.91 just off his 2009 personal best of 21.84.
Cameron Rowe (Washington 2011), the 4A II State Champion is the number three returner in this event. Last year he ran 21.83 to win his division. He later went on to win the 200 in the Meet of champions.
Devon Allen (Brophy, 2013) the number one returner in the 100 finds himself in the number two spot in the 200. At the Great Southwest Classic her ran 21.73 (PR) placing third.
Trae Armstrong (Pictured above) (Deer Valley, 2012) is the top returner in this event in 2011; he was the 5A II Champion in both the 100 and the 200 last year. During the State Meet he ran a personal best of 21.59.
With all of the top returners under running under 22 we should have a very talented 200 group this year. Others you will want to watch this season include: Michael Strnad (Higley, 2012), Jay Bowser (Rincon, 2011), Tyler Grammer (Ironwood).
