After cutting short her undefeated AIA track and field season, one of the top ten fastest 100m hurdles in the country, Garrett shifted her focus to national-level meets this summer. The shift paid dividends this weekend at the University of Oregon's Hayward Field, where she demonstrated her excellence in the short hurdles.
At the USATF U20 Championships, she made Arizona history by competing against the nation's top high schoolers and NCAA freshmen. In the 100m hurdles final, Garrett ran 13.19 to finish third, qualify for the World Athletics U20 Championships, and break the Arizona state record.
Garrett's time beat the previous state record of 13.22, set by Kori Martin in 2024 at the Chandler Rotary Invitational. She finished third in that record-breaking race as a sophomore and is now the queen of the hill as a senior.
Finishing third in the USATF U20 100m hurdles final also makes Garrett an alternate for the World Athletics U20 Championships, set for this August at Hayward Field. He was the first high schooler to cross the line, behind NCAA freshmen Madeline Cooper (12.91) and Tori Goodson (13.15).
Rebekhah-Jhade Garrett continued to rack up accomplishments the day after U20s in Oregon, where she secured the Nike Outdoor National 100m hurdles championship. She ran 13.28, her second-fastest time ever, to win over the stacked NON field.
From rewriting Arizona history to standing atop the national podium, Garrett's residency at Hayward Field proved she belongs with the top hurdlers in the nation.
