DI State Meet Preview: Who Can Challenge The Wolves?

Jumps

Johnie Talamantes (Sr.) of Red Mountain High School holds the current state-leading mark in the Boys' Long Jump with a PR of 24-2 and is ranked 2nd for the Triple Jump, just behind Jaylen Coleman (Pinnacle, Sr.). How will they fare in the Triple Jump at the State meet?

Earlier this season, Jai Gruenwald (Chandler, Sr.) jumped 20-02 ranked AZ #2 on the All-Time List for Girls Long Jump. She'll have her eye set on breaking the State record this Wednesday at Riggs Stadium. Meanwhile, her teammate Diamond Black (Sr.) of Chandler High School, is another major contender not only in the long jump but also as the top triple jumper in the State with a mark of 38-8.25. Darkhorse jumpers include Tucson Magnet's Neysia Howard (Sr.) who took 2nd for LJ last year at State, and Jillian Lombardi (Desert Vista, Sr.) ranked 3rd in the Long and 2nd in the Triple. Cierra Tidwell (Highland, Jr.) is the top Arizona high jumper with a mark of 5-7, but only leads the state by one inch, so it could really be anyone's title.
