DI State Meet Preview: Who Can Challenge The Wolves?

Throws

Deshon Toney (Sr.) of Desert Vista High School leads the state in the shotput with a mark of 56-8.5 and looks to take the win at the D1 championships. Kevin Fairchild (Jr.) of Desert Vista looks to be the favorite for the state title in the boy's javelin throw, which has been contested for the first time this season as a scoring event.

Samantha Ponds (Chandler, Sr.) is the favorite to win the Discus competition and the only girl who has launched the platter 140+ feet. Desert Vista's Jaztyne Griffin (Sr.) is ranked 2nd with 138-7 and could likely take the win as well, just like at Chandler Rotary. Last year Kayleigh Conlon (Mountain Pointe, '18) set the Shot-Put State Record with 47-9.5. Could we see that record fall this week between Alaina Diggs (Millennium, Jr.) or Samantha Ponds (Chandler, Sr.) in the Division I contest?
