Arizona Summer XC Practice Warming Up

For those that are not familiar with this location, it is the Victory Steps at Verrado. It is four-tenths of a mile to the top of the stairs with another four-tenths to the top of the mountain. Willow Canyon XC chose to run the steps for a Saturday morning workout.

Running up steps requires concentration. Pay attention in cross-country running uphill as sometimes the surface may be uneven. This is a great summer conditioning drill. It all adds onto that base mileage you are trying to build.

Coming down steps also requires a lot of concentration. Most of the downhills in cross country will allow you to open up your stride and let gravity help speed you up.

Sometimes that extra lap really helps you to finish off the workout.

Whatever you do all your cross country runners need to be putting in your base miles this summer. Good luck and see you on the courses this fall.
