Name: Abi Archer

When did you begin competitive running?
I first began running in the 7th grade when I joined track and cross country. I really started to train before freshman year and that is when I began my running career.
What does a typical training week look like for you?
A typical week of training for me includes a speed workout, a tempo run, and a long run with recovery runs in between. I usually run six days a week, with one rest day.
What is something that helps you mentally prepare for a race?
To mentally prepare for a race, I set a goal and think about how I can accomplish it. I then visualize myself accomplishing that goal.
What's your favorite XC meet?
My favorite cross country meet is Desert Twilight because I usually run at night so it is cooler. The race is also very energetic and exciting with lots of competition which makes for a great race!
What's your favorite pre-race meal?
My favorite pre-race meal is some chicken or steak with vegetables and sweet potatoes. I also love some good mac and cheese!
What's your season goal?
Going into the season, a goal I had was to break 18 minutes for the 5k, which I reached early on. Another goal I have is to race much stronger at state than last year and to have my team win state this year.
Do you have any role models on the team or from years past?
I don't have any one role model on my team necessarily but my teammates who have stayed with running throughout their high school career and continue to reach new goals encourage me.

What motivational advice of your own do you give the younger athletes?
I motivate the younger athletes to keep pushing their limits at practice and at races because their hard work will pay off. I also encourage them to enjoy running and have fun while training and competing since they sometimes feel pressured to perform.
Do you have a favorite pro-runner/athlete?
I don't really have a favorite but I do like Mo Farah, Usain Bolt, and Allison Felix.
Will you be racing any post-season meets (NXN or FL West)?
For the post-season, I will be racing at NXN and possibly at FL West.
Do you have any other hobbies or interest?
Another hobby I have is lacrosse. I have played for five years and I am on the Chaparral varsity team.
What is something interesting or unique about yourself that you would like to share?
I love to ski with my dad. We go to Colorado every spring and it's always something I always look forward to.
