Allie Schadler: Arizona Girls Distance Runner Of The Year

Name: Allie Schadler

School: Rio Rico

Grade: Senior

Whether in-state or out-of-state, Allie Schadler (Rio Rico, Sr.) has been nabbing podium finishes all season long. This year, it was interesting to watch her not only dominate the Division 3 distance races but the 400-meter dash as well. Her first major challenge came when she raced National Indoor and Cross Country Champ, Brie Oakley (Grandview, CO) in the Sally Meyerhoff Mile. It came down to the wire between the two in which Schadler finished 1st at the 1600 in 4:45.39, but was edged out for the win at the one Mile finish in 4:46.97 to 4:46.98. At Arcadia she earned 3rd place in the prestigious 3200 race with a State Record of 10:05.70. She moved on to race and win the 800 at the Brooks Mt. SAC Relays in 2:08.56. Three weeks later she and her sister Samantha dominated every race from 400 meters to 3200 along with their 4x800 and 4x400 relay teams to deliver 60 out of the 64 points, that earned a 3rd place team finish for Rio Rico among Division 3 Girls. The following week at the Meet of Champions, she and Morgan Foster (Chandler, So.) raced the 800, pushing each other under the 2:09 barrier. Schadler outkicked Foster down the homestretch in 2:08.22 to seal the deal on her AZ High School career. We wish her the best in Seattle as a U-dub Husky this fall.

Honorable mentions:

  • Morgan Foster (Chandler, So.)-After doubling in the 800 and 1600 meters for two Division I State Titles, Morgan ran 2:08.89 against Allie in one of the greatest 800 meter races on Arizona soil.
  • Sarah Carter (Xavier College Prep, Sr.)-After returning from injury only the second week of March, Sarah ran 10:35.21 at Arcadia and took runner-up finishes for 1600 and 3200 meters at the D1 State meet.
