Abdi Nur only just finished his 2nd year of running. As a junior he ran a season best time of 17:39 for 5k in cross country. A year later he finished the season as a Division I State Champion. He credits Allah for blessing his life with friends and family who guided and fostered his passion for running and aspires to do well at the collegiate level.
Q: What was your most memorable race?

A: My most memorable race would have to be the state cross country race. It was my first time running at the XC State Championship and it was the most fun I had in race. Fast race on a tough course.

Q: Who would you consider your biggest competition over your four years?

A: My biggest competition would Aron Orar. He's a great friend of mine. He brings the best out of me in very race. The humblest guy I know. He's gonna' be doing big things next year.

Q: What was your greatest accomplishment?

A: Helping my team make it to the cross country state championships, during my Senior year was probably my greatest accomplishment because we did it as a team and it wasn't just an individual thing.

Q: If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running career in high school?

A: I wouldn't change anything. I loved every moment I was on the team. Enjoyed my teammates and coaches. I wish I had started running Cross Country/Track during my freshman year, but overall it was a great experience.

Q: What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?

A: I had an injury during this year's track season. It was an IT band injury. I dropped out during my 2 mile race at Chandler rotary. I did a lot of rolling out exercises and took some time off to get back to 100%.

Q: What will you miss the most about running for North HS?

A: I'm gonna miss my teammates and coaches. The two years I've been running with them was amazing. Mostly gonna miss the long runs with my teammates.

Q: What advice would you give to younger athletes?

A: Best advice I would give to younger athletes would be never be scared to race, always have positive thoughts, never give up and most importantly have fun doing it.

Q: What influence has your coach had with respect to your performance and overall life goals?

A: My Coaches (Braulio Quinonez, Carlos Zubiate, and Mario Lopez) pushed me to be the best version of myself. They believed in me before I believed in myself. They tell me never to give up no matter how hard it is.

Q: What are your college plans?

A: In college I hope to grow as an athlete and as a student. Also to work hard and achieve all my goals and hopefully win an NCAA national championship.

Q: Who do have to thank for your success in high school?

A: Thankful for Allah for all the blessings he has given me. I'm thankful for my amazing family. I'm thankful for my coaches and teammates. I'm thankful for everyone who impacted my life in a positive way.
