Thomas Cain Drops 9:06.26 At Mt. SAC

Thomas Cain (hip no. 10) finished 6th in the 3200m at Mt. SAC

Though it took about a month to regain his speed for the track season, Thomas Cain is back and rolling. Thomas' farewell season for the Cibola Raiders started with a modest victory in the 1600m at the Rattler Booster Invite, after playing basketball through the winter. "I was trying to run as often as I could when I wasn't too tired or when it wasn't too dark. There were many practices where I ran from my house to practice and back. I did a half-marathon late in my season and it kinda' let me know where I was at and where I needed to be."
Last year, he solidified his strength in the 3200m not only with a 9:16.08 run at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, California but also with a State Title. Upon returning to Mt. SAC a year later, Cain eclipsed his PR with a 9:06.26 performance, now the fastest time for Arizona this year. "I wanted to break 9 and win a golden ticket to Brooks PR but it was just a tough day," says Cain about his performance. "Mt. SAC is on of my favorite meets and I've been blessed to run it the past two years. I want to thank my coach, my parents and my teammates for pushing me to this level."
Cain says he and his coach Kris Norton intend to tackle the post-season beginning with Great Southwest, Golden West and if fortune favors Brooks PR. That means he's not tapering just yet. "Mileage has stayed the same in order to make sure I'm peaking later." He's got a week and a half to prepare for State where he'll be looking to defend his title in the 3200m. You can catch him tomorrow at Desert Vista's Last Chance Meet.
