Even though Leo Daschbach (Highland, Jr.) ran 26 seconds slower at NXR-Southwest, his performance was the fastest among Arizona boys. The next fastest boy was the newly crowned State Champion Sammy Van Alstine (Desert Vista, Jr.) who finished 31st in the Boys Championship race.

We had no boys from the Copper State qualify for Nike Cross Nationals, and while Daschbach's thrown down some wicked fast times at elite level races, Van Alstine could very well close the gap over the next year, and if that happens can they continue to raise the level of competition in Arizona.

On average, the Arizona boys who ran this year's Desert Twilight and Nike Cross Regionals-Southwest, performed two-and-a-half seconds slower over the Francisco Grande Golf Course in November than when they raced back in September. Check out how Arizona boys fared at both races along the state's fastest course.
