In an effort to preview the upcoming cross country season we wanted to put out lists of the top boy and girl returnees based on their combined 1600m and 3200m times.
While McLeskey, Upshaw, Hall, and Driskill have all run under 11-minutes for the 3200m, there are several girls who could put themselves in the mix. Katy Clausen (Desert Vista, Sr.) broke 18-minutes at Desert Twilight before placing 10th in the D1 Girls' race at the AIA Cross Country State Championships.
In addition to distance running, Clausen she has a background as a competitive swimmer and has in previous years considered herself a two-sport athlete. In the spring, Clausen ran PRs of 5:12.74 in the Sally Meyerhoff Mile at Chandler Rotary and 11:02.28 for 3200m at Arcadia Invitational.
