Liberty senior Jonathan Sweepe made a statement to the rest of Arizona on Friday night at The Brophy Prep Devon Allen AMDG Invitational at Brophy Preparatory High School in Phoenix with his win in the Charles Hampton Boys 1600m.
Sweepe took home the win in 4:17.76, establishing a new state lead in the process. Heading into the evening, Salpointe Catholic senior Michael Urbanski was the state leader at 4:19.36.
But now there are two new names atop the leaderboard as Hamilton senior Andrew Gibby finished in a close second at 4:18.25.
Sweepe had use to strong last 400m to secure the victory as the senior closed in 59.24 seconds. Gibby was not far off with a 60.04 final lap. You can watch the full race here.
