Tell us how your training is going?
My teammates and I have been training all summer, and this helps us build team spirit and have fun without the pressures of racing.
What are your goals for the upcoming season?
Our team's goal this season is to compete at Nike Cross Nationals in Portland, Oregon on December 3rd.
How long have you been running and how did you get started?
I was inspired to start running by my first distance coach, Jocelyn Gaffney. My first team was a USATF team, the Phoenix Bobcats, which I joined when I was in 4th grade.
Will you be competing out of state this season?
Yes. My teammates and I will run at Mt. SAC in October, and also hope to compete in Portland, Oregon at Nike Cross Nationals.
Favorite course to run in Arizona?
I enjoy running the Desert Twilight course, because it has fast-paced competition in a fun atmosphere. There's always music, dancing, and the opportunity for your team to get decked out in glow-in-the-dark accessories. It is like a runner's version of Mardi Gras.
Toughest course in Arizona?
The George Young course is normally the toughest course of the season, because it is run early in the year when it is still hot and several dusty hills are always included.
What is your favorite cross country race so far in your high school career?
My favorite cross country race was the 2011 Team USA Cross Country Championships in San Diego, California where I qualified to race in Trinidad and Tobago at the 2011 NACAC championships.
Favorite Cross Country memory?
My favorite cross country memory is riding in my teammate Daylee Burr's RV with our other teammates to Mt. SAC every year. On the trip all the girls watch movies, play games, and relax before the race.
When you are not running what is your favorite thing to do?
When not running I enjoy hanging out with my team. We recently hiked down the Grand Canyon - the current record holder for ascending the canyon is one of my best friends, Savannah Gaffney. We also meet up for tea parties and afternoons of movie-watching, bowling, and food. When not with the team, I spend time with my two sisters, Catherine and Erin Fakler.
