The Scottsdale Running Company Cross Country Meet kicked off at 7 AM with boys and girls running together in the JV/Open Race at the Silverado Golf Course in Scottsdale. The JV/Open race was followed by two co-ed varsity races. The first varsity race, the Black Race, featured the #5 though #8 runners from each team while the #1 though #4 runners raced in the Gold Race. The team scores were based on the times from the top six runners from each team. (Mesa Mt. View pictured above)
Coverage
Many of the top teams in the country competed this weekend, with a few squads showing that they have national championship abilities. Girls U.S.#3 Saugus (CA) kick-started their season with a record breaking performance in California, showing they'll give the top squads from New York quite the challenge this year.
The second week of the 2008 Cross Country Season had some great performances! We did not get all of the results until late in the week so this weeks top performances are a little late but we did not want to leave it out! REAL MEN WEAR PINK! The Glendale High School Cross Country Team, enjoyed the day in pink T-Shirts, as they cheered on teammates and other runners! Just watching them would put a smile on anyones face!!!
1A - 2A Junior Ronald Laban from Hopi is the clear favorite for the 1A - 2A State Meet. Some of his season highlights include a 1st place finish at Ojo Rojo, a 4th place at Jack Boehle and a 4th place in the Division 5 Boys Sweepstakes Race at the Mt. Sac Invitational in California. Laban may have competition from his own teammates, Kevin Tsinniginnie (Jr) and Brennon Sidney (Jr) and from Cody Rosengarten (Jr, Tombstone) and Sean Newport (Sr, Valley Christian).
