Perry's Taylor Lovell Upsets The Field in DI Girls 3200m

MESA, AZ. -- Perry senior Taylor Lovell provided one of the big shocks on Day Three of The AIA State Track & Field Championships in the Division I Girls 3200m. Lovell, who came into the race as the fifth seed at 11:13.65, unleashed a monster kick with 250 meters to go to upset the field and win a time of 10:53.66. 



While it should not be so shocking that Lovell -- a BYU commit -- won the title, the senior took down the defending state champion in cross country (Desert Vista junior Lauren Ping) and the runner-up (Highland junior Emma Baugh) and set a new seven-second personal best in the process. It is Lovell's first individual state title after she anchored her team to a win the 4x800m relay on Saturday.
