When did you first get involved with track and field? How long have you been running:
I have been running Track for 7 years now, I started in 6th grade at Queen Creek Middle School and have loved every minute of it.
What is a typical training week like for you?
We run about around 50 miles a week with a mix between track workouts and longer runs, we also go to the weight room twice a week for extra strength training.
What are your goals for the remainder of the track season?
I'm really excited to lower my PR's at the State Meet and be able to finish my high school career with something I can be proud of.
How do you prepare yourself mentally for a race? Do you have any superstitions?
Usually the night before a race I will watch the movie Secratariat, it's about a racehorse but it's very inspirational and there a lot of quotes that apply to running!
What message would you tell younger runners who aspire to be at the top?
I would tell younger runners to always take the extra step, always compete at practice and run with the varsity athletes whenever you can. Also, by going to the weight room during the season you automatically have an extra leg up on the competition and you will definetly see results in races.
If you had to attribute your success to one thing, what would it be?
If I had to attribute my success to one thing it would have to be all the support I get from both my coaches and my family. Corona's coaching staff is so encouraging and pushes us to our best ability, Coach Jackson, our mid-distance coach, is one of the best coaches around and he always expects the best from us. My family is the same, they make sure I am healthy and ready to run a PR at every meet. My mom and aunts actually all ran Track and my grandpa has a record board where he keeps all of our times, my aunts were all really good and there are a couple of records I still have to beat!
How many events do you compete in and which event is your favorite?
I compete in the 4x800, 1600, 400, 800, and 4x400. My favorite race is the 800 meter though, it's so rewarding when you run a PR!
What are 3 things we don't know about you?
Something you probably don't know about me is that I compete in Horse Shows, our family has four horses and I ride after practice 2-3 times a week. It's good cross training and I love it!
