AZ Outdoor Week In Review - March 26th - March 31

If I missed a meet or a meet record - it's because the results were not sent to me...... please send all results in a flat html to Mkelly@milesplit.us (also located at the bottom left of the home screen) so I can include them in the weekly report.

New Records

Four Desert Vista freshman girls recorded the fastest freshman 4x800 meter relay breaking the record by 13 seconds at the Becky Matthews Freshman Showcase on Saturday.  The time of 9:53.83 is the 2nd fastest time in the state this season behind Red Mountains 9:53.01 from the Basha Relays the night before.

Starting the 4x800 was Maddie Bucci running a 2:24.36 1st lap followed by Mya Carrizosa in 2:36.86; Sabrina Camino in 2:33.36 and Amanda (Mandy)Davis in 2:19.08.

A race before the race

Desert Vista freshman Baylee Jones was just 2 seconds off the freshman 1600 meter run record when she crossed the finish line in 5:09.41.  She might have had a much better chance of breaking the record (and possibly breaking 5 minutes) if she hadn't started her day with a 10 mile run before heading over to the Invitational.

Jackie Martin (Corona del Sol) ran an amazing 57.48 to come close to breaking the 400 meter freshman record of 57.03.  Martin is ranked 5th in the state with a 57.27 from the Chandler Rotary last week.

Other Outstanding Marks

Lauren Elsworth (Jr., Highland) moved herself to AZ#1 by running a 2:12.03 in the 800 meter run at the Basha Relays.   Her time puts her at US#10!!

Nathan Rodriquez (Sr., Corona del Sol) ran a 1:55.36 in the 800 meter run for an AZ#4.

Bianca Finn (Sr., Chandler) threw a season best 44-1.5 in the shot put at the Buckeye Throwers Meet.

Vanessa Davis (Jr., Desert Vista) once again jumped to an amazing 13-0 (AZ#1, US#7) for the second time in 2 weeks in the Pole Vault at the Peoria Invite.

Both Reed Bussey (Queen Creek) and Sam Shoultz (Corona del Sol) jumped 6-6 in the high jump at the Basha Relays while Justine Summerset (Marana Mt. View) jumped a season best of 6-6 at the Mt. View Tri Meet.

The boys Pole Vault had two jumpers hitting 15-0 with Will Hooper (Moon Valley) at the Glendale Union Relays Invitational and Jake Alme (Desert Vista) at the Peoria Invite.

At the Millennium Tiger Relays, Zarriea Willis (Alhambra) won the High Jump with a jump of 5-6.
