Nastia Bishton (Sr, Mountain Ridge) took nearly 7 seconds off her PR when she won the 3200 at the Golden West Invitational in Folsom California Saturday evening. Nastia and her twin sister Nadya have had an incredible running career in Arizona over †he past few years with Nastia having some memorable moments her Senior year. Her 14th place at Footlocker Nationals gave her All American Status and her win tonight with her 10:28.32 PR is a great way to end her High School running career. She will be heading to Arizona State in the fall. Nadya has earned many titles during her career including two Cross Country State Championships and will be heading to the University of Wisconsin.
Steve Magnuson, a sophomore from Ironwood Ridge, has not been able to run all season in Arizona due to AIA rules regarding school transfers. At the Golden West Invitational he was seeded 11th with a time of 9:28.70 and finished in 6th place with an impressive time of 9:16.21. It would have been great to see what Magnuson could have accomplished had he been allowed to run in Arizona this season.
Junior Sarah Penney (Xavier Prep) also had a great evening running toe to toe with Cory McGee from Pass Christian, Mississippi. McGee's seed time for the mile race was 4:48.00 and Penney's was 4:50.70 but when they cross the finish line, .22 seconds separated the two of them with McGee winning in a time of 4:55.42 and Penney coming in second in 4:55.64.
