Firebirds Swept The Team Titles At El Dorado Park
Later that Thursday afternoon, the Scottsdale District Championships were held at El Dorado Park by Chaparral High School.
In the boys' varsity race, Kyle Miller (Desert Mountain, Sr.) led Ethan Rodriguez-Story (Saguaro, Jr.) through much of the race and pressed through to take the victory over Rodriguez-Story by ten seconds. Almost a minute later, Brandon Jonas came through the finish in third place as Chaparral's top boy. His fellow Firebirds, Daniel Kwiatkowski, Monty Gibson, Caleb Ho, and Ciaran Geraghty all finished among the top-ten boys to close their spread under twenty seconds and collect a score of just 32 points.
Like the Boys' Varsity, the Girls' Varsity race played out in a similar fashion with Tiaree Towler (Chaparral, Sr.) leading Kaylin Lacher (Desert Mountain, So.) around the first two laps of the course. Towler would easily drop Lacher in the final lap and powered through to clinch her second straight District Title. Sarah Turner and Hayden Sparks flanked Towler with third and fourth place finishes for Chaparral. Anne Garner-Hajek and Olivia Coulston placed 13th and 16th respectively, to shut it down for the Firebirds to sweep the District Titles.
