What May Be Some Surprises This XC Season?

In a little over a week races will begin for the 2020 cross country season in Arizona. The question is what is to be expected when many athletes haven't raced since last cross country season or had one or two races or time trials in the spring?

On top of that, the threat of COVID-19 is still quite prevalent. And what will happen if a runner on a team gets infected? 

On one hand, many athletes not having raced in many months may have allowed their bodies to heal and therefore get stronger for the 2020 season. Could there be some breakout times in 2020?

While some athletes have put in the miles and kept their training going, some athletes, for a number of reasons, may have gotten behind in their training and are therefore not where they should be at this point.

Moreover,  with many races lessening the number of entrants this season, are kids going to get enough quality races to be ready for the championship season?

And how will not having maybe the crowd support as we have had in previous years affect runners?
