Sophomore Boys to Watch as Juniors in 2021
There were twelve sophomore boys this season who went under the 16:30 5K barrier, which is a pretty good time to be at for a second-year high school runner. Sixteen more sophomore boys were under 17-minutes. Many of these top sophomore boys were in their teams' top-five in 2020, and we would think most will be in the top one to three spots for their respective teams in 2021.
There were two teams with four boys under the 17-minute mark. Hamilton had Nicolas Valle, Jacob Slater, Andrew Gibby, and Andrew Mickey all run in the 16s and one point or another in 2020. This is setting up quite well for the Huskies next fall. They were 13th overall at State, but we should see a huge jump in the standings with these four speedy sophomores becoming juniors in 2021.
