The boys Division 5 (small schools) Team Sweepstakes race was the last race of the day as the Hopi boys exploded off the start line with senior Ronald Laban taking an early lead and never letting go of it.
After the first mile and going up the switchbacks, Hopi had three runners in the top 5. Laban had a strong lead heading up the reservoir hill as the sun was setting behind him giving the crowd a silhouette figure to watch.
Laban finished in 15:35 on the three mile course; 15 seconds ahead of second place Devoll Wesley of Pasadena Polytech. Hopi teammate Kyle Silas (Sr., pictured right) finished third in 16:04 with Justin Secakuku (Jr.) finishing 5th in 16:11. Brennon Sidney (Sr.) took 10th in 16:18 and McCray Huma finished 17th in 16:58.
