Ironwood Ridge senior and future Arizona Wildcat Logan Marek took the win in the 3200m on Saturday night at Sundown Track Series #1. A group of five went through the halfway mark just on 9:00 3200m pace clocking 4:30. Over the final 1600m, the race broke down to a battle between he and Daniel Appleford (Newbury Park). The field was paced through 2000m, or 5 of the 8 laps.
Marek stayed on Appleford's heels after the pacer dropped off until approaching the bell lap where he took the lead. Appleford stayed in tact and the two had an epic battle kicking down the homestretch where Marek was able to take the win by .3 seconds in 9:00.61. A fantastic January performance in what is normally a downtime for Arizona track in-between seasons.
