When did you first get involved with track and field?  How long have you been running:

I first became involved with track and field in junior high when I participated in the city track meet. The summer after 7th grade, I participated in a week-long summer pole vault camp. I have been training year-round for pole vault since my freshman year. This is also my fourth year triple jumping and second year hurdling.

What is a typical training week like for you?

My training is different during different times of the year. Right now, I lift about three times a week: before school Mondays and Wednesdays and on Saturdays. At school, I do sprinting workouts and technique development for all three of my events. I also do full pole vaulting three days a week, sometimes at my school and sometimes with my club. I go to my club practices 4 times a week.

What are your goals for the upcoming track season?

I have marks in mind that I want to reach this season, but my biggest goal is to work hard and make improvements every day. I want to be stronger, faster, more consistent, and better technically.

How do you prepare yourself mentally for a race?  Do you have any superstitions?

I prepare for a meet by listening to music and relaxing. I always drink orange juice or eat and orange before I compete.

What does your season look like and will you be competing in any out of state track meets during the season or post high school season?

I will be travelling to the Arcadia Invitational with my high school team this year. In the past, I have competed at the Great Southwest meet in Albuquerque over the summer.

What message would you tell younger runners who aspire to be at the top?

I would tell younger athletes that they dedication will help them be most successful in their event. The rewards are worth the hard work if they are patient.

Do you have role models or mentors in track and field?

My club coaches, Dean and Jill Starkey are amazing people and athletes. I have a lot of respect for them and am lucky to have their instruction.

How many events do you compete in and which event is your favorite?

I compete in three events, but I have spent the most time and effort on pole vault. I consider it my main event.
