When did you first get involved with track and field?  How long have you been running:

I first became involved in track and field in sixth grade, and have been running long distance for six years.

What is a typical training week like for you?

A typical training week consists of a mix of hill workouts, intervals, long runs, and some easy days. We usually start out with a hard workout on Mondays, have some time to recover, and finish up the week with more difficult exercises.

What are your goals for the upcoming track season?

I hope to break 9:15 in the 3200 meters, and want to place first in the 3200 meter race at the state meet.

How do you prepare yourself mentally for a race?  Do you have any superstitions?

I most often listen to “Flux” by Bloc Party. It is a great pump-up song to prepare for a fast race.

What does your season look like and will you be competing in any out of state track meets during the season or post high school season?

Our season is pretty busy this year. We will be going to many different competitive meets, and I am excited to get the chance to challenge myself with such great competition!

What message would you tell younger runners who aspire to be at the top?

A good work ethic is vital to one’s success, especially in the sport of distance running. Work ethic should never be discredited as a means of success.

Do you have role models or mentors in track and field?

My sister Shannon is an amazing inspiration to me in my track and field career. She inspired me to start the sport at a young age, and has encouraged and supported me ever since.

How many events do you compete in and which event is your favorite?

I compete in the 3200 meter and 1600 meter races. I also occasionally compete in the 4×800 meter relay. My favorite race by far is the 3200 meters.

Best thing your coach ever said to you?

During my sophomore year in the state 3200 meter race, my coach told me “Go! You’ve got nothing to lose!” It may seem cliché, but it really encouraged me during one of my most difficult, yet rewarding races.
