When did you get started as a running:

When I was in third grade my school had a fun run where I trained for about a week running around 15 minutes a day with my dad. I then had to compete in a one mile race against my classmates.  When I went into middle school I joined cross country and track and that is when I began racing competitively.  Ever since then I have been running.

Which meets will you be running this year?

This year our team will be attending the Chandler Invitational, Woodbridge Invitational, Desert Twilight, and Rattler Invitational.

What are your goals for the upcoming track season?  What do you look forward to the most?

My goals for this upcoming season are for my team to be two time defending sectional and state champions.   Of course I want to defend my individual state title and also I am working to qualify for NXN.

How is your summer training going?  Your favorite workout? What kind of summer mileage do you run?

My summer training is going very well.  I started training for cross country in July since I was still training for track during the month of June.

I don’t have a favorite workout yet.  I just enjoy working my hardest during a workout and giving it my all.  The fun part for me during a workout is when I am running well and keeping up with the boys.

Do you cross train (lift, swim, bike etc)?

During the summer my teammates and I met on Monday, Wednesday and Friday to lift for an hour and right after we would go for our run.  It was a lot of fun for me because I loved seeing my teammates work really hard and it was also fun to see all of us getting stronger every week. Now that our season has officially started, we have been lifting throughout the week as well as doing plyometrics.

Do you follow any kind of nutrition program or watch what you eat?

I don’t really watch what I eat as a runner because I have a mom who makes sure I am always eating healthy every meal I eat.  I love ice cream and I do eat some junk food but not bunches of it.  Overall I don’t really watch what I eat.

Have you ever been injured?

Last year during winter training I got really bad shin splints.  For a few days I couldn’t really run because of how much they hurt.  Shin splints aren’t really an injury but it was just painful to run.

So far in your high school career, what is your favorite cross country race or cross country memory?

So far in my high school career my favorite memory was at the Doug Conley invitational.  Nobody thought I could win that race, not even me. My plan was to just run my hardest and see what would happen.  With less than 400 meters to go I was in third place and I ended up winning!

What is the best part of running?

The best part of running for me is seeing how much I improve.  I love seeing myself become stronger and faster.

Out of all your running accomplishments so far, which stands out the most?

Out of all my running accomplishments, I have two that stand out the most; the state meet and Doug Conley.  They stand out to me because I put in so much effort and I got out huge rewards.

When you are not running what do you like to do?

When I’m not running I enjoy spending time with my family, playing ping pong, reading, and watching TV.

How have your coaches influenced you overall?

My coaches have influenced me immensely.  They have trained me extremely well, they have encouraged me when I have doubted myself in my ability to run and they have always kept me moving forward to help me accomplish my goals.  Without my coaches I would not even be close to where I am today as a runner.

Shout outs?

I would like to give a shout out to all my coaches from middle school to high school, to my family for sticking with me and encouraging me whenever I need it, to all the people who have sponsored me for my running, to Carlos Villarreal who helped make my training more fun and enjoyable throughout the summer, to my entire team for always being there for me, and most importantly my girls team, who encouraged me and helped me to become the runner I am now.
