With the 2014 cross country season just around the corner it's time to start our "Watch List" highlighting the top returners. Red Mountain High School senior Taryn Estavillo is our next Watch List athlete.
As the season starts we will continue to add athletes to the list.

When did you get started as a running:
I started running in the 7th grade during P.E. class. Everyone hated running the mile on Fridays, but secretly it was what I looked forward to most.
Which meets will you be running this year?
Red Mountain will be hosting our first Invitational this year “King of the Mountain”, which I’m so excited to run. Some of the other invitationals we will be attending include The Doug Conley, Twilight, The Ray Wherley, 2014 State meet and Nike Regionals.
What are your goals for the upcoming track season? What do you look forward to the most?
My goals for the season are to place top 5 at state individually, break 18 minutes in the 5k and leave my heart and soul on every course I run. Most of all this season I want to finally become a fierce competitor and take a shot at winning. I want to leave the High school race scene knowing I took advantage of every last opportunity I was given.
I look forward to spending time with my amazing team (its going to be tough to say goodbye) and racing the new Twilight course.
How is your summer training going? Your favorite workout? What kind of summer mileage do you run?
My summer mileage went extremely well. I ran a total of 506 miles, which seemed almost impossible when my coach presented the challenge at the start of summer! My favorite workout would have to be one we did at High altitude camp in Geer (over 7,000 feet elevation)! The workout was 6 x 2,000 meters and 3 x 1,000 meters, all on a dirt road winding through the forest. It was a tough workout, but the scenery and the attitude from everyone on our team made it one of my most accomplished training days physically and mentally.
Do you cross train (lift, swim, bike etc)?
Yes, cross training is a big part of my workout routine. I aqua jog and do explosive plyometrics in the pool twice a week, along with lifting. On Sundays I either ride the stationary bike or use the elliptical machine for 30-45 minutes.
Do you follow any kind of nutrition program or watch what you eat?
I don’t follow a specific nutrition plan, however I tend to stick to a very healthy, non processed diet (with the exception of my daily serving of ice cream). My mom is a wonderful cook and puts a lot of emphasis on making sure I eat correctly, without her my eating habits probably wouldn’t be so great!
Have you ever been injured?
Thankfully I have never been injured!
So far in your high school career, what is your favorite cross country race or cross country memory?
I would have to say last year at Twilight some of my favorite cross country memories were made! My entire team PR’d and everything just seemed to click, which doesn’t happen very often.
What is the best part of running?
The best part of running for me, is seeing how hard I can push myself and trying to improve at every race.
Out of all your running accomplishments so far, which stands out the most?
My two-mile at the State track meet last year was one of my biggest accomplishments because I finally broke through my mental barrier! Staying strong through the last 300 meters was one of the best feelings I’ve ever experienced, although I do wish I could’ve kicked a little bit harder.
When you are not running what do you like to do?
Hiking, Shopping and riding horses are a few of my favorite things to do, aside from running. I love to spend time with my parents, little sister Tessa and my crazy friends.
How have your coaches influenced you overall?
My coaches have influenced me in so many ways, but overall they have taught me that character and good values always come first!
