Chamique Duboise races to a runner up finish this fall in Division 3 Cross Country.
This week the main indoor actions came from New Mexico where
Desert Mountain from Scottsdale and Window Rock from Fort Defiance made the
trek across the border to compete in the Duke City All Comers meet.
For the Division 1 Wolves, Ryan Connolly looked to race himself into sprint shape competing in all three of the sprint events. He certainly looks like he has been working hard so far this winter. The junior was able to score top five finishes in both the 400m and 200m, setting a personal record in the 200m (at least according to the MS database, if results are missing please send them my way). Sophomore teammate Jerod Herrera was not quite able to PR, though he turned in a solid performance and looks to build off of his winter fitness this outdoor season. Senior jump specialist Michael Taylor was able to improve on his mark from last year's Scottsdale District Championships by an inch. It is always a good thing when you start of the next season right where you left the previous one off.
The Fighting Scouts sent a larger contingent to the meet, which makes since sense their high school is also much closer to the border. Like Connolly, Delano Walker showed off his winter fitness by trying to race himself into shape at the meet. Hungry for a Division 3 podium finish after bowing out in prelims last year he is once again focused on the short sprints and long jump. Also hungry to improve on last season's performances is Chamique Duboise. Having had multiple top five state finishes, the sophomore looks to take a state title this spring, or at least inch a little closer to pre-season favorite Allie Schadler. She certainly started her season off right by winning the 2 mile at Duke City. Also winning for the Scouts was Kobe Toadlena in the shot put. This bodes well for the senior thrower looking to go out with a state berth. He also competed with Riley O'gleason in the short sprints.
Indoor meets are not easy to find in Arizona, but these two school managed to do it. Stay tuned for more winter coverage from Arizona Milesplit.
