As the Tolleson Invitational celebrates its return to the West Valley in 2015 it promises to bring one of the seasons more impressive sprint fields. The 400 appears to be the marquee event, headlined by Copper Canyon's Julian Coronado-Clark. Clark took runner-up finishes at the Chandler Rotary in both the 100 and 200 but will have serious competition from Coconino's Marcus Baca-Martinez, NPA Skydome champion in 51.43, Tolleson's Alex Poe (51.65), runner-up at the Buckeye Lions invitational and Marco Diaz of Westwood (51.38). Look out for Division IV defending state champ Gabe Galvan (50.73) of Arizona Lutheran as well. He will be running his first 400 of the season, and is a serious threat to take gold.
The 200 should be another showdown between Coronado-Clark and Poe whose bests of 21.68 and 21.65 respectively are near identical and the class of the field.
In both the 100 and the 110H expect to see Tolleson's Trey Johnson (10.99, 15.00) near the front as he is an automatic state qualifier in both events. Prime competition should come from Valley Vista's Akil Abdullah in the 100 and Sedona Red Rock hurdler Andre Davis (15.16w) who finished 3rd both at the Rattler Booster Invitational and the 2014 Division III State finals.
Davis is the favorite in the 300H after his victory at the Sedona Friendship Meet and a runner-up finish at the Division III state finals in 2014. His 40.05 PR came at the Husky Invite. Attempting to knock Davis off will be Westview's Jonathan Garcia who ran 40.73 to win the Gaucho relays.
In the relays Tolleson's 4x100m (42.59) and Cesar Chavez's 4x400m (3:24) own the day's fastest entries.
