Boys 1600 - Espinoza Comes Through With A Kick
While State Champions Rylan Stubbs and Leo Daschbach would run the 800m later that evening, Randy Espinoza (Deer Valley, So.) and Ayden Schilb (Cienega, So.) would go up against Anekin Hetman (Brophy College Preparatory, Sr.) and Lee Nasewytewa (Desert Vista, Sr.), all podium finishers for the 1600 in their respective divisions.
Schilb led the race from the front, but as they went down the backstretch over the final lap Espinoza threw down a monstrous kick to secure the victory over Schilb, just barely skimming some time off his personal-best. Meanwhile, Hetman ran down Nasewytewa to just barely dip under 4:20 in his last race for the Brophy Broncos.
