Milesplit Arizona Cross Country Journals

Daylee returns this season as one of the top female runners in the state completing a very successful track season last spring with a 5:05.27 PR in the 1600 and an 11:09.57 in the 3200, placing 4th in both events at the State Meet.  Last weekend Daylee finished 5th at the George Young invitational followed by 4 of her teammates.  Daylee is a very hard worker and if you spend any time with her you will quickly learn she is the sweetest, kindest person you can meet.  Keep checking back to see how Daylee's season progresses.

Hi there Milesplit!

This is my last journal, and it's been 2 weeks since my last race. For starters, I had state on November 6th, and it turned out really well for the Xavier team! We got first with Sarah Fakler, Breanna Perrone, Katie Penney, Mckenna Gaffney, Julianne Vice, and Christian Andreen. They all performed extremely well, and it was great to see all our hard effort pay off. It got a bit tough to getting up around 4:30 AM every morning for 5 AM practice for 5 months, so it was great seeing everyone race as they did! I would have personally like to have been faster, but everyone else came through when needed most, so that is what matters! Not every race can be one's best, so I have learned to accept that during this XC season especially.

We then moved on to Nike Region 2 weeks later on the 20th, and got third by a very slim margin (5 points I believe). The top 2 teams automatically go to nationals, and being third, there was a very small chance we would make it in compared with all the other regions around the country. So that was a little depressing, but I think we all handled it pretty well. Sarah Fakler, however, got third individually in the southwest region, and was able to move on to Nike nationals at least! Everyone on the team continued to train for 2 more weeks so that we would all be on the same schedule when we take our running break (with absolutely NO running). We are all going to take complete advantage of it!

It is really weird that my last XC season in high school is over, but track should still be just as fun. I like XC more because I feel there is a closer bond among the team since we are all running a 5k and train for the same thing. Track is still pretty fun because there are different races to run in, so it is nice to mix it up! I am going to miss the team so much when I graduate, and I know they will dominate as always. As hard as it is getting up early every morning (which continues during track when it's freezing), it is much better knowing that there are others doing the same for you.

Thanks for reading!
