Despite the cancellation of the 2020 outdoor track season, several of the top Division 3 boys from the 2020 season return to compete in 2021, with their eyes set on winning a state championship.
Cj Scrivner from Safford returns this season with the fastest 100m time in Division 3. Not only will Scrivner be a name to watch in Arizona, but he will also have eyes around the country on him. Scrivner finished last season as a US No. 3 in the event and will be the second-fastest returner in the country. Scrivner will be the clear favorite to win the state championship in the event.

Scrivner also holds top times in the 110m and 300m hurdle events. In 2020, Scrivner was undefeated, which included wins in both events at the Ted James Invitational and Safford Bulldog Invitational.
The two hurdle events will be hotly contested in 2021, especially with its top three performers returning in both. In addition to Scrivner, Kawai King and Logan Hubler from American Leadership Academy (Queen Creek) return in 2021.

King clocked the fastest time in the 110m hurdles in Division 2 last season, running a 15.28, while Hubler finished second and Scrivner finished third. In the 300m hurdles, Hubler finished the season first in the event, running a 40.39, while King was second and Scrivner was once again in third. These two events will be among the best to watch this season.
Ethan Rodriguez-Story from Saguaro will be the top distance name to keep an eye on in Division 3. Rodriguez-Story returns with the fastest time in the 3200m, having run a 9:55.22, as well as the second-fastest time in the 1600m. Keeton Sanchez from Youngker returns the fastest 1600m time, running an impressive 4:29.64.
Porter Sweet from Fountain Hills is the top returner in the javelin and will be the overwhelming favorite to win the state championship in the event. Sweet competed in the AIA state meet in 2019 as a freshman and finished 5th. In 2020, Sweet won the Arizona Small School Invite in the javelin throw as well, where he threw 167-6 feet.
The pole vault is sure to be one of the most competitive events for Division 3 boys. Grant Hagaman from Coconino and Michael Montgomery from Salpointe Catholic both return this season, both having jumped over 14-0 in 2020. Hagaman finished 11th at the AIA State Championship meet in 2020, whereas Montgomery will be looking to qualify for his first state meet in the event.
