Brophy Prep AMDG Invitational - Friday March 19th, 2021

Below are 3 important updates about the AMDG Invitational.

1. Limited spectators.

For the 2021 AMDG Invite on March 19: Change from No Spectators. In an attempt to vastly reduce the crowd size but still honor and value supportive parents, we will allow 2 parents for each senior track athlete to attend this meet with a pre-purchased ticket ($7). All who attend this event will wear a mask at all times, they should establish their own space around the outside of the track - you could bring your own chair. The Brophy Sports Campus facility does not have bleacher space which unfortunately does not allow room for very many spectators to be safely distanced from each other and from the many athletes. Here is the link for tickets. https://www.ticketsource.us/brophy-college-prep

*There won't be a snack bar, all spectators and athletes will need to bring whatever they will need for food and drink to the meet.

2. Good news - Brophy will provide Live Stream coverage of all of the races at this track meet. The links for you to share with your parents and fans are below - so you can relay this to your track team parents.

Track Events 3:30pm - 8:30pmHigh Jump / Pole Vault 3:30-8:30Long Jump / Triple Jump 3:30-8:30

Everything is always public at www.brophyprep.org/livesports

3. All entries and results will go through https://az.milesplit.com , not athletic.net.

COVID-19 adjustments for this Brophy Sports Campus 2021 track and field event:

  1. Coaches will need to submit a roster confirming that each athlete is asymptomatic, much like winter sports teams/coaches are required to do.

  2. Masks worn appropriately will be required by everyone at all times at the Brophy Sports Campus. The exception is that an athlete can choose to remove their mask for the few minutes that they are actively competing. The expectation is that each athlete carries a mask on his/her person and must keep it on up until the start of a race and put the mask back on immediately when the race is completed. All field events athletes are to keep masks on at all times, with the exception of pole vault.

  3. Limited spectators. In an attempt to vastly reduce the crowd size but still honor and value supportive parents, we will allow 2 parents for each senior track athlete to attend this meet with a purchased ticket. All who attend this event should establish their own space around the outside of the track - you could bring your own chair. Here is the link for tickets https://www.ticketsource.us/brophy-college-prep The Brophy Sports Campus facility does not have bleacher space which unfortunately does not allow room for very many spectators to be safely distanced from each other and from the many athletes. In addition to limited ticketed spectators, only the competing athletes and their track coaches are invited in for this track meet. We are choosing to have more teams/athletes at this event in exchange for not having spectators.

  4. However, this meet will be livestreamed with one livestream camera/link covering all races on the track. We will follow the posted time schedule that viewers from home will also have available to them. There will also be a different livestream camera/link for continuous viewing of the long jump/triple jump events, and another livestream camera/link for continuous coverage of the high jump/pole vault competition. 5. Team camp spacing. Each team will be assigned a campsite. This designated space will provide organization so that each invited team can safely set up.

  6. Maintain social distancing. The six foot social distancing guidelines is expected to be followed wherever possible by everyone at the Brophy Sports Campus.

  7. Each athlete will have to provide his/her own water container.

  8. Limit number of competitors. The Brophy Sports Campus has limited space so less teams were invited to this track meet. Additionally, teams are encouraged to bring fewer athletes to compete at this varsity level competition. If a teams 2nd or 3rd participant in an event is not prepared to perform at a varsity level, they could wait for another opportunity to compete? A fewer number of participants in any event is easier for everyone to manage safely. If applicable, the team entry fee for some schools can be reduced to match the number of participants from that school.

  9. Come late, leave early. This is not a traditional strategy for success:), but to keep down the total number of people at the track at any given time, athletes are encouraged to arrive independently in time for their event(s) and/or leave as soon as possible after their last event.

  10. Related to #9, we will stay on the listed time schedule. Athletes can plan on the accurate start times set for their events. Down time on the track between races will be good for allowing more space for transitioning groups of athletes in and out of the event area.

Yes, some of the expectations listed above are more restrictive than the current AIA policies. The Brophy community has been successful reducing COVID-19 cases on campus by strictly enforcing disease prevention strategies. Any questions or concerns about these Brophy AMDG Invite COVID-19 safety precautions should be directed to Brophy Athletic Director Josh Garcia jgarcia@brophyprep.org

Brophy Prep AMDG Invitational meet information:

Welcome to your high school boys and girls track and field teams at our 10th annual Brophy Prep AMDG Invitational. This is a varsity track competition that follows the format of the Nike Track Nationals team championship meet that was held in June, 2010 and 2011, in Eugene, OR.

Each school will compete for points in ten track and field events including: 100m, 110/100m Hurdles, 400m, 800m, 1600m, Long Jump, High Jump, Pole Vault, Shot Put, Discus Throw. Each is allowed to enter up to 3 athletes for each event, with a two-event maximum per individual athlete in scoring events. The performance marks will be scored in decathlon fashion with performance marks awarded a point score. Competition consists of ten scoring events, all 10 events will count and the team total score will be the sum of the ten events. The highest score earns the team championship trophy.

Each school can also compete up to 3 athletes in Non-Scoring Triple Jump, 300m Hurdles. Each school can enter two relay groups in the 4x800 and 4x100 Non-Scoring relays and one relay team in the Non-Scoring 4x400.

Team Clarification: Coaches do not need to enter a specified A competition team. The A,B,C determination of the athletes was removed from this meet in 2018. The scoring will consist of up to 10 athletes from the school in the scoring events. All athletes will be competing for the one varsity championship (there is no B or C competition level). The athletes event score will count for their team if they perform the best mark for their school. An athlete can only register to compete in 2 scoring events. Athletes can compete for any of their schools teams for relays and non-scoring events. A school can enter two relay teams in the 4x800 and 4x100, and only one relay team in the 4x400. Non-scoring events can be an athletes 3rd and 4th event (maximum of 4 events per athlete).

1. This meet will be an AIA sanctioned state qualifying meet.

2. Track is all-weather. 1/4" or 1/8" spikes only. No food or drink allowed on the FieldTurf infield inside the track.

3. All running eventsare timed finals - there are no prelims. Athletes will check in before each event on the infield at the tent in the south end zone. Hip numbers will be used for all races.

4. Long and Triple Jump - competitors will be allowed 4 jumps. All boys and all girls will jump in seeded flights. There will be no finals.

5. Shot Put and Discus- implements will be weighed at the SW garage door opened storage area near the track finish line at 3:00. Throwers will get four throws, no finals. (Decathlon performance points are used for scoring in the team competition, so to be fair it is reasonable to have all throwers receive the same number of throws).

6. Pole vault weigh in will also be at the SW garage door opened storage area near the track finish line at 2:30 and 5:00pm.

7. The Brophy Sports Complex is located at 7th St. and Highland (entrance to Xavier College Prep) (4700 North 7th Street, Phoenix, AZ 85012). Track Facility: 8 lane all-weather track opened in April 2010. There is limited parking there so buses will drop- off teams at the track entrance (7th St & Highland) and then park at Brophy (Central Ave and Highland). *To reduce the number of people at the track facility, we encourage athletes to come just for their events and then leave again after their last event.

8. Team camps will be outside the south turn of the track or in the east side field. *Teams must maintain social distancing as designated in camp area spaces. The limited bleacher space is for coaches. Athletes can warm up on the FieldTurf infield, but no camping in there, and please no food, seeds, or drink inside the track.

9.Entry fee due Friday, March 6th. $360 for a school to register a boys team and a girls team (3 entries per event). $180 for boys only and $180 for girls only. *A school can choose to only enter 2 athletes per event and pay $240, or a school can choose to enter only 1 athlete per event or up to 10 athletes total in any events and pay $120. Please have checks made out to Brophy College Prep, and send them to Brophy College Prep, 4701 N. Central Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85012 - Attention Track and Field.

10. Entries will be submitted on-line by 11pm on Monday March 15th on milesplit. State qualifying: All 15 events will be state qualifying events. The races will be seeded by submitted times/distances and the fastest heat will run last. See the unique Order of Events page for the meet schedule.

11. The top 3 performances in all 15 events will medal. A team trophy will be awarded to the winning boys and girls teams. *Nike declined to sponsor this track event this year, however event winners will receive a Nike duffel bag, and 2nd place will receive a Nike water bottle. Both of these Nike items are carried over from the cancelled 2020 AMDG Invitational.

12. Limited Spectator admission at this 2021 track meet. In an attempt to vastly reduce the crowd size but still honor and value supportive parents, we will allow 2 parents for each senior track athlete to attend this meet with a purchased ticket ($7). All who attend this event will wear a mask at all times, they should establish their own space around the outside of the track - you could bring your own chair. Here is the link for tickets.
