Weekend Highlights For March 7th Mar 14, 2009

 Desert Vista Juniors Shaylah Simpson and Matt Yalung on the podium after winning their events.  Simpson place first in the pole vault with a vault of 12-3.  Yalung won high jump with a jump of 6-4.

Arizona State Meet - Boys Preview Nov 6, 2008

1A - 2A   Junior Ronald Laban from Hopi is the clear favorite for the 1A - 2A State Meet.  Some of his season highlights include a 1st place finish at Ojo Rojo, a 4th place at Jack Boehle and a 4th place in the Division 5 Boys Sweepstakes Race at the Mt. Sac Invitational in California.  Laban may have competition from his own teammates, Kevin Tsinniginnie (Jr) and Brennon Sidney (Jr) and from Cody Rosengarten (Jr, Tombstone)  and Sean Newport (Sr, Valley Christian).    Sidney and Tsinniginnie placed 9th and 11th at Mt. Sac helping the Hopi team to a 2nd place finish; Newport won the 1A-2A Metro West Regional Meet and Rosengarten won the Benson Invitational and placed 3rd in both the Los Mesquites Invite and the Ojo Rojo Invitational.  

Highlights - Queen Creek Twilight Invitational Oct 5, 2008

Top Performers Of The Week! Sept. 13 Sep 21, 2008

The second week of the 2008 Cross Country Season had some great performances!  We did not get all of the results until late in the week so this weeks top performances are a little late but we did not want to leave it out! REAL MEN WEAR PINK! The Glendale High School Cross Country Team, enjoyed the day in pink T-Shirts, as they cheered on teammates and other runners! Just watching them would put a smile on anyones face!!!

Mesa Mt. View, Desert Vista and Xavier Win at Scottsdale Running Company Invite Sep 14, 2008

 The Scottsdale Running Company Cross Country Meet kicked off at 7 AM with boys and girls running together in the JV/Open Race at the Silverado Golf Course in Scottsdale.  The JV/Open race was followed by two co-ed varsity races.  The first varsity race, the Black Race, featured the #5 though #8 runners from each team while the #1 though #4 runners raced in the Gold Race.  The team scores were based on the times from the top six runners from each team.     (Mesa Mt. The Great Southwest Highlights Jun 9, 2008

Hannah Carson (left) from Dobson Photo by Alan Versaw (Colorado Milesplit) Athletes from all over the West headed to the University of New Mexico over the weekend to compete in The Great Southwest Invitational. The elevation was over 5,000 feet and the winds were swirling around making it difficult to post some great times. Highlights: Meet of Champions Jun 5, 2008

It was blistering hot at the May 24th Meet of Champions......no wait.....it was in the 70's and the weather was perfect. It's hard to believe it was May in Arizona and hot chocolate was selling faster than ice cream. Spectators were wearing jackets or wrapped in blankets and the runners were enjoying another unusually cool day at the track. The Meet of Champions is a race where the State Champions and top runners from each division come together and race for one title. Weekend Highlights - City and District Meets Apr 30, 2008

Weekend Highlights Chandler City Meet   Last week was the week of City and District meets though out the state and even though the top athletes were separated by districts there were still some very impressive times and great head to head match-ups. In the Chandler district meet Quiana Jackson (Chandler) won the 400m race in a blistering time of 56.53 which moved her into the number one spot in Arizona. Her teammate Larissa Matthews won the 100 hurdles in 14.20 and the 300 hurdles in 46.52.

Weekend Highlights - Queen Creek Invitational and Sun Angel Classic Apr 19, 2008

While some of the top Arizona athletes headed to California for the Arcadia Invitational, a few stayed home to compete in the Queen Creek Invitational on Friday evening and the Sun Angel Classic on Saturday. On the girls side at the Queen Creek Invite, teammates Mariah Bowers (junior pictured far left) and Ashley Workman (sophomore pictured right) of Queen Creek ran the 800 side by side until the final meters where Bowers stepped over the finish line just .09 ahead of Workman with a time of 2:22.03.
